What an Awesome time!

Thank you to everyone who came out and made Bruised by Bike a HUGE success. We had tons of fun, got a little dirty, got a little hurt, and danced our asses off. Our mini-bike-friendly-mystery ride was a lot of fun, and a great way for the people from out of town to get to know the new Seattle crew. Battling the mosquitos was made up for with a fun U-District garage bomb.

The mini-cross course proved to be completely brutal. Props to Leslie and Corey for designing an awesome race, and nearly making Felix throw up.

Jimmy's Bowling game creation was a fun challenge for everyone and the Rollo tournament got good and intense too.

Georgia's Seattle-based dance troup got the crowd good and warmed up for the stellar performance by Vancouver's The Brakes. Nice work dancers!

Word on the street is the afterparty dance party carried on until 5 AM. Much thanks to DJ Kelly and Smile Brigade for cranking out the jams all night.

And Props to Ryan and Leslie for whipping up a stellar Sunday brunch while everyone whipped themselves off the ramp and into Greenlake on out lakebike.

There's some conversation about making this an annual event, but nothing concrete yet. Until then here's a quick wrap-up of photos and a list of winners!

What's this all about?

What is Rollo?
It's bicycle polo played on children's sized bikes with 16" wheels or smaller (AKA a "16"). Two teams of Players use mallets (similar to croquet mallets) of their own making to hit a ball around a concrete court and attempt to score goals against one another. Games are more playful than physical but can be very competitive. Invention of Rollo is credited to the Zoobombers out of Portland, OR.

What is Mini-Cross?
Well for the purposes of our event it is a cyclocross race wherein riders use the same 16s to pedal their way around a dirt/grass course. A group of riders compete against each other and the first to complete a set number of laps first wins. There are also several obstacles and hazards which riders must navigate every lap around the course. Crashing is a high probablility so pads and helmets are reccomended.

What is SPROING?
SPROING (also known as whiplash) involves two riders on 16s with a length of rope and bungee/inner tubes tied between them. The riders pedal in opposite directions as quickly as they can. The bungee stretches tight and eventually one, or both, of the riders is pulled from their bike. The last rider to put a foot down wins.

What is Jousting?
Are you serious? You want to know what jousting is?!

What is Mini-Bike Bowling?
It's an all-against-all competition where riders on 16s pedal within a set circle and attempt to knock over water bottles by hitting the Rollo ball into them using their Rollo mallet. Water bottles may not be knocked down any other way, and the shot must be made within the circle. The first rider to knock down any three water bottles wins. Only one ball is used however and putting a foot down results in riding in a complete circle outside of the circular playing field. This is a serious game of skill.

Just an update on prizes to wet your appetite a little. We'll have custom-made medals for 1st. and 2nd place teams in the Rollo tournament (yes, they're awesome, and yes, you'll want one), plus a brand new mini-bike for the top individual scorer. There will also be prizes for the winners of mini-bike bowling plus a brand new mini bike for 1st place. And we have trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in Mini cross and a brand new mini-bike for 1st place!

That's 8 medals, 6 trophies, 3 brand new minibikes, and grips of other prizes including bicycle parts, custom stem pads, and tons more. Plus I haven't even mentioned the extra special bonus prizes to be revealed on game day. If the three minibikes that are up for grabs aren't motivation enough, then we'll just have to keep collecting prizes!

Mini-Cross Flyer!

Check out the all new mini-cross flyer! I test rode the course earlier this week. It's going to be brutal! Get some good riding legs under you, 'cause you're going to need them!

Larger Flyer Here.
And here's a link to a black and white flyer if anyone likes making photocopies.
